The Listening Tree
Where real lives inspire songs, and songs become lanterns.
The Listening Tree stands at the heart of KoKinMa.
It's growing from a theme deeply rooted in my debut novel, The Secret Songwriter.
In the story, the main character, Allegra Vinelli, discovers heartfelt letters written to Santa Maria in Siena, Italy, and feels compelled to write the songs she hears within them.
Inspired by Allegra's fictional journey in The Secret Songwriter, I'm bringing that theme into the real world through Lantern Songs and The Listening Tree.
Lantern Songs begin with something meaningful a person chooses to share. They are not a retelling of lived experience. Rather, they're original songs that reach beyond the experience, drawing on it to find strength, light, hope or release.
With permission, each Lantern Song can be hung in The Listening Tree – a growing collection of songs shared with others who may find something of themselves in them.
Together, these songs will become the first album of The Listening Tree: a collection celebrating the stories, wisdom and transformative moments that inspired them.

A Lantern Song is an original commissioned song, written and recorded in response to something meaningful you choose to share with me.
Rather than a retelling of your story, it's an original piece of music inspired by the experience you've chosen to share.
